It’s the perfect series for anyone who has ever been labeled “weird” just for being smart. The show reminds us that being different is completely okay—and even something to celebrate!
Believe it or not, it’s been six years since The Big Bang Theory aired its final episode. Naturally, fans can’t help but wonder what the cast has been up to since then. If you’re just as curious as I am, you’re in for a treat! Let’s take a look at where our favorite characters are now. Plus, since some of them have changed quite a bit over the years, we’ve included ‘then and now’ photos so you can see just how much they’ve transformed!
1. Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper

Jim Parsons brought to life one of the most unforgettable characters on television—Sheldon Cooper. His portrayal of the eccentric, socially awkward, and borderline genius scientist made The Big Bang Theory the sensation it became. While Sheldon’s quirks and lack of social awareness often made him a challenge for his friends, he was still deeply loved and cherished by them—and by fans worldwide.
When The Big Bang Theory first hit screens, Jim was 34 years old. Fast forward to today, he’s now 51 and has kept himself busy with a variety of projects.
Even during his time on TBBT, Jim took on several film roles, appearing in The Big Year (2011), The Muppets (2012), Hidden Figures (2016), and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019). But his connection to the Big Bang universe didn’t end with the show’s finale. He went on to narrate and executive-produce Young Sheldon, which wrapped up in 2024 after an impressive seven-season run.
Beyond that, Jim produced the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, starring his former co-star Mayim Bialik, which even earned Emmy nominations. He also took on a role in Netflix’s miniseries Hollywood, bagging yet another Emmy nomination. Most recently, he’s returned to the theater, starring in productions like Mother Play and Our Town in 2024. Clearly, Jim Parsons continues to leave his mark in the entertainment industry, proving he’s much more than just Sheldon Cooper!
2. Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter

Johnny Galecki brought to life the lovable and nerdy Leonard Hofstadter, a brilliant physicist and Sheldon Cooper’s ever-patient best friend in The Big Bang Theory. His portrayal of Leonard not only won the hearts of fans but also earned him an Emmy nomination and multiple SAG Award nods.
Even while starring in TBBT, Johnny stayed active in Hollywood, taking on roles in films like Hancock (2008) and In Time (2011). But long before he was Leonard, he was known for playing David Healy in the classic sitcom Roseanne. He even returned to reprise the role in its 2018 reboot.
However, after his appearance in Roseanne, Johnny decided to step away from the spotlight. He officially retired from acting and has not been seen on screen since, choosing instead to focus on his personal life and other interests. While fans would love to see him make a comeback, for now, he seems content with life beyond Hollywood.
3. Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz

Simon Helberg was already a well-known name in the comedy world before he stepped into the role of Howard Wolowitz on The Big Bang Theory. As the quirky aerospace engineer and former astronaut, Howard was the only one in his friend group without a Ph.D., but he more than made up for it with his genius in engineering—and his signature flashy outfits. Fun fact: Simon and his co-star Kunal Nayyar, who played Raj, are good friends in real life too!
Even during his time on TBBT, Simon was involved in some critically acclaimed films, including A Serious Man (2009) and Florence Foster Jenkins (2016). After the show ended, he continued making waves in Hollywood, starring in Annette (2021), Space Oddity (2022), and As They Made Us (2022).
Most recently, Simon has landed a role in the hit TV series Silicon Valley, proving that his comedic and acting chops are as sharp as ever. Fans of his work can’t wait to see what he does next!
4. Kunal Nayyar as Raj Koothrappali

Kunal Nayyar became a household name with his role as Raj Koothrappali in The Big Bang Theory. His portrayal of the socially awkward yet lovable Indian astrophysicist won hearts, and his friendship with Leonard added to the show’s charm. TBBT was Kunal’s breakout role, but he didn’t stop there—he kept himself busy with several other projects while the show was still on air.
During his time on The Big Bang Theory, Kunal lent his voice to Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) and later voiced Sanjay in Nickelodeon’s animated series Sanjay and Craig (2013). He also became a recurring voice in the Trolls franchise as the glitter-loving Guy Diamond.
Beyond acting, Kunal explored writing and released his book Yes, My Accent is Real: And Some Other Things I Haven’t Told You in 2015, sharing his journey and experiences in Hollywood.
In recent years, he has taken on more serious roles, starring in Netflix’s Criminal: UK and Apple TV+’s Suspicion. His latest appearance was in Spaceman (2024) alongside Adam Sandler. Since then, he has stepped away from the screen, leaving fans eager to see what he does next.
5. Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler

Mayim Bialik became a part of The Big Bang Theory in Season 3, introduced as Sheldon’s perfect match through a dating site. Her character, Amy Farrah Fowler, is a neurobiologist whose relationship with Sheldon is a rollercoaster of quirks, challenges, and sweet moments. Despite their ups and downs, the two ultimately tie the knot in the Season 11 finale, making them one of the most beloved couples in the show’s history.
Even before The Big Bang Theory catapulted her to global fame, Mayim Bialik had already made a name for herself in Hollywood. She starred in the iconic 90s sitcom Blossom and lent her voice to popular animated shows like Johnny Bravo and Kim Possible.
After TBBT ended, Mayim expanded her creative horizons. She stepped into the director’s chair, writing, directing, and producing As They Made Us, which hit screens in 2022. From 2020 to 2023, she reunited with her TBBT co-star Jim Parsons as an executive producer on Call Me Kat, where she also played the lead role.
6. Kaley Cuoco as Penny

Kaley Cuoco brought the character of Penny to life in The Big Bang Theory, playing the fun-loving, aspiring actress who moves in next door to Sheldon, Leonard, and Raj. Unlike her scientifically inclined neighbors, Penny is social, outgoing, and full of charm. Over the years, she develops a deep bond with Leonard, leading to their eventual marriage.
While working on The Big Bang Theory, Kaley explored roles in films like Killer Movie (2008) and The Penthouse (2011), though neither performed well at the box office.
After TBBT ended, she found her next major success in voice acting, taking on the role of Harley Quinn in the DC Animated Universe starting in 2019. Not only did she voice the character, but she also served as an executive producer for the show. Around the same time, she launched her own production company, Yes, Norman Productions, with The Flight Attendant (2020) as its first project. She starred as Cassie Bowden in the series, which ran until 2022.
Following the success of The Flight Attendant, Kaley expanded her film career, producing and acting in movies like Meet Cute (2022) and Role Play (2024). Most recently, she starred in Peacock’s comedy thriller Based on a True Story, which wrapped up its second season in 2024.
7. Melissa Rauch as Bernadette Rostenkowski

Melissa Rauch brought the character of Bernadette Rostenkowski to life in The Big Bang Theory, making her debut in season 3 as a sharp-witted microbiologist. Over the course of the series, her relationship with Howard Wolowitz blossomed, leading to their marriage in the season 5 finale.
Before TBBT, Melissa had already built an impressive acting career, with roles in popular shows like True Blood and The Office. She also appeared in films such as I Love You, Man (2009) and Ode to Joy (2019).
Beyond acting, Melissa showcased her talent behind the scenes as well. She co-wrote, co-produced, and starred in The Bronze (2015), a dark comedy that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2017, she stepped into the DC Universe, lending her voice to Harley Quinn in the animated film Batman and Harley Quinn.
More recently, Melissa took on the lead role of Judge Abby Stone in the Night Court reboot, proving that her comedic charm and acting prowess are as strong as ever.
